PHILADELPHIA RECORD COMIC BOOK SECTION (JUNE 15, 1941)

Here's an interesting item:  a 16-page newspaper section featuring stories about three popular comic book characters.

First, Will Eisner's The Spirit, one of the greatest characters in comic book history, takes up half of the supplement with "Dusk and Twilight," wherein The Spirit tackles the murder of Dr. Bosphor.

Then, Ford Davis' Lady Luck (a.k.a. Brenda Barnes) finds herself in South america with her father trying to stop saboteurs at her father's Manganese mines.

Finally, Bob Powell's Mr. Mystic must rescue the owner of a small circus from the Court of Animals after the man has killed M'bombo the gorilla.

Some great artwork here, along with entertaining stories.

Enjoy.

  1. This was the basic source of "classic" distribution for THE SPIRIT...less sure of the other features. Syndicated, but not as widely as kids might've hoped.
