UNDERAPPRECIATED STINKER: CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH (1986)

Troma Entertainment has been scraping the bottom of the B-movie barrel for 52 years and is now known mainly for its horror comedies, full of violence, sex, gore, laughable monsters, and poor production values.  They are the ones who created The Toxic Avenger, Poultrygeist:  Night of the Chicken Dead, Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, and Surf Nazis Must Die.  The company has had many financial problems, yet they have retained a certain cult status along the way.  You may kick yourself after watching a Troma film, and perhaps hide your head in shame because you enjoyed it in all its cheesy gloriousness,

The Class of Nuke 'Em High may well be the studio's second most successful film, following The Toxic Avenger.  It had our unsuccessful sequels, proving that you can't capture lightning in a bottle more than once.  At one time, it was the highest-selling VHS release for Troma.

Tromaville High School, New Jersey, sits next to a  nuclear power plant.  When a radioactive leak occurs, the plant owner, Mr. Paley, covers it up.  The waste reaches a drinking fountain in the school, killing a student.  Some of the school's honor society, have turned into [psychopaths from the radioactive waste, and form a vicious gang called "The Cretins," and harvest some marijuana affected by the waste.  This has an aphrodisiac effect and one girl, Chrissie, becomes pregnant...but not for long; she spits out a tiny creature into a restroom toilet.  The creature travels through the pipes until it comes to rest on a pile of radioactive sludge.  It grows.  And grows.  There's a killing spree.  And a takeover of the school by The Cretins, who also kidnap Chrissie, planning to kill her in front of her boyfriend.  and there's lasers.  and explosions.  And a lot of characters die.  Although the school is totally destroyed, we learn that it will be closed temporarily for "repairs."

Here's the link.  Try not to watch it with your sainted grandmother.
