OVERLOOKED OATER: THE DESERT HORSEMAN (1946)

The fourteenth of sixty-five movies starring Charles Starrett as the Durango Kid, guaranteed to make any fan of Saturday matinee movies smile.

This time The Durango Kid is Steve Godfrey (his last name may change from movie to movie, but his first name is always Steve), a man falsely accused of robbing an army payroll.  The man who could help clear his name is then murdered and pretty Mary Ann Jarvis (Adele Roberts) stands to lose her ranch as bad guy H. H. Treadway (Richard Bailey) keeps urging her to sell.  Time for The Durango Kid to spring into action!

Smiley Burnette is the comic sidekick, in his fifth outing after replacing Dub Taylor earlier in the year.  Walt Shrum and His Colorado Hillbillies do the musical honors.

Directed by Ray Nazarro and written by Sherman Lowe, The Desert Horseman is a pleasant -- albeit somewhat mindless -- way to spend an hour.
