Ogden Nash opined that Philo Vance needs a kick in the pance, and I can see where he was coming from. I can only take S. S. Van Dine's works about the detective in very small doses -- like one in every three to four years. Does the same aversion work with the radio program about Mr. Vance? Let's see.
