OVERLOOKED FILM: THE UNHOLY THREE (1925)

THIS IS THE FIRST VERSION OF A CLASSIC FILM OF MURDER AND MENACE DIRECTED BY tOD bROWNING, WHO REMADE THE MOVIES AS A TALKIE FIVE YEARS LATER

This is the first version of a classic film of murder and manace directed by Tod Browning, who remade the movie five years later in its more popular form.  Both versions starred the great Lon Chaney.  Taken from Tod Robbins's novel The Terrible Three, Chaney plays Echo the ventriloquist who disguises himself as Granny O'Grady, a kindly old lady who runs a bird shop.  Circus freak Tweedledee, the "twenty-inch man," po  (Harry Earles) poses as the old lady's grandbaby, and strongman Hercules (Victor McLaughlin) complete this triumverate of criminals who launch a fantastic crime wave that inevitably leads to murder.  Mae Busch plays Rosie, the gun moll who poses as Granny O'Grady's daughter.  Matt Moore is Hector, the straight-laced young man who falls for Rosie and forms a unintentional romantic triangle with the ventriloquist and the hard-edged Rosie.

Chaney is...Chaney.  and it can't get any better than that.

Enjoy this twisty little thriller.
