SIX YEARS **SIGH**

It's been six years since Texas author Bill Crider passed away.  Bill was dearly loved by everyone who knew him, as well as by everyone who never had the chance to meet him personally.

Here's a sample of Bill's warmth, wit, and intelligence, taken from random listing in his blog:

And here is his very first post on his blog:  "July 28, 2002.  I'm starting this blog on my 61st birthday, and about one month before I retire.  I have no idea what's going to be here, but for now I'll just use it as a diary.  For my birthday, we made peach ice cream, the first time we've done that in years.  We used the old wooden freezer that has a hand crank.  You have to earn your ice cream around here.  It [sic]  had to root around in the attic for quite a while before I found the freezer, but it was in great shape.  The cie cream was as good as I remembered.  My mother's recipe.  My wife, Judy, fixed lasagna, and out daughter, Angela, came over.  Our son, Allen, loves in Austin and couldn't be here, but we talked to him on the phone."

[Does anyone else have a han kering now for peach ice cream?]

Bill had many other interests:  old movies, "I have a gub," "I'm sure you'll agree,"  great songs, VBKs (very bad kittens), the love of his wife, Judy, and their children, anything quirky or strange, the town of Alvin (certainly part of Texas Leads the Way),  "Not that there's anything wrong with that," "In that case, you're free to go," And Keep Off My Lawn!, old movies, Dr. Pepper (with sugar), and so much more.

His blog, Bill Crider's Pop Culture Magazine, is still available on the web (although craven spammers have hit the comments section).  Check it out.  And doff your hat to one who not come our way again.

  1. Dearly loved by so many people. Texas charm, I guess.

  2. Thanks for the reminder...it was 2 days after my mother's first birthday after her own death in 2017. The casualness with which people treat (or cause) death is justly argued against here...Bill's own charm and grace, Patti.

  3. Thanks for the reminder, Jerry. He is still missed.
