THE BATTLE OF BOSWORTH FIELD

On this date in 1485, the Battle of Bosworth Field -- the last major battle of the Wars of the Roses -- took place, resulting in the death of Richard III and the end of the House of Plantagenet.  Henry Tudor then seized the throne, becoming Henry VII and founding the Tudor line of England's rulers, which ruled the country for more than a century until it was dissolved on March 24, 1603.
