Gabbo the Great (Paul Lukas, Watch on the Rhine, Little Women, Dodsworth) is a succesful ventriloquist who meets pretty Wichita Jones (Anne Francis, Forbidden Planet, Bad Day at Black Rock, television's Honey West) and asks her to becone his assistant. This does not sit well with Gabbo's dummy Pepe, and things go downhill from there.
Also in the cast is Robert H. Harris, who had roles in well over 100 television shows from 1949 to 1978, including regular slots in The Court of Last Resort (as Raymond Schindler) and The Goldbergs (as Jake Goldberg). Actress and future consumer affairs spokesperson Betty Furness did the commercials for Westinghouse, and Paul Branson served as the announcer.
This episode was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner and waas based on a noted short story by Ben Hecht, adapted Worthington Miner and David Opatoshu. Miner also produced this episode. David Markle created the series.
