Ballard, born John Henry Kendricks, would have been 87 today. Ballard wrote and first recorded "The Twist," later a mega-hit with Chubby Checker's 1960 cover. "Finger Poppin' Time" was a Grammy nominee.
(BTW, Ballard's cousin Flo was one of The Supremes.)
