PHILO VANCE: THE ARGUS MURDER CASE (December 2, 1946, 1950)

"Philp Vance

"Needs a kick in the pance."

Ogden Nash was right.  Luckily, old-time radio took the advice to heart and cast Vance as a "pretty normal, though vey intelligent and extremely courteous gumshoe," rather than the irritating, supercilious creation from the S. S. Van Dine books.

There were three iterations of the Philo Vane radios show.  The first, starring Jose Ferrer, ran on NBC radio in 1945/. The second, a summer replacement series that ran in 1946, featured John Emery as Vance.  From 1948 to 1950, Jackson Beck took over the role.

This episode, from the second series, involves an off-shore gambling ship, a missing woman, and her anxious husband.

Enjoy.
