Sorry, folks. A recalcitrant computer has prevented me from posting until now. At least I get to post this before polls close today on this vital Election Day.
George Orwell's fable seems as relevant today as it did when it was first published seventy-five years ago. Most of you have read the book; if not, you at least know the general outlines of the story. This animated British film stars Gordon Heath as the narrator; the great Maurice Denham voices all the animals. Joy Batchelor and John Hals directed this full-length and rather dark cartoon that veers slightly from the source work.
Of interest: E. Howard Hunt, Watergate conspirator and sometime paperback thriller writer, reveal in 1974 that he was assigned by the CIA's Psychological Warfare department to obtain the film rights for the book from Orwell's widow: this film was funded by the CIA! At least that's what Hunt claimed -- believe it as you will.
