CASEY, CRIME PHOTOGRAPHER: KING OF THE APES (MAY 1, 1947)

George Harmon Coxe's Flashgun Casey, photographer for Boston's The Morning Express, was born in 1934 in the pages of Black Mask, followed by twenty more stories in that magazine, five novels, two films, one television series, and a popular radio program (with one four-issue comic book tie-in).  The radio show ran for seven years on CBS (July 7, 1943 to November 16, 1950) and was revived for  run that lasted a little over a year (January 13, 1954 to April 22, 1955).  Over the years Casey was portrayed by Staats Cotsworth, although Jim Backus created the role during the first few episodes.

"King of the Apes" was written by Alonzo Deen Cole and involved the death of an animal trainer at the hands (paws?) of orangutangs.  Join Casey and his assistant Ann Williams as they tackle this exciting adventure in between frequenting the Blue Note Cafe.
