ANNIVERSARY OF A CRIME

Eighty-eight years ago the son of aviator Charles Lindbergh was reportedly kidnapped.  I say reportedly because there is still much speculation and controversy about the event.  What is known is that the badly decomposed  body of 20-month-old Charles Augustus Lindbergh, Jr., was found nearly two weeks later on March 12.

In a case that became a national sensation, Germany-born Bruno Richard Hauptmann, 35, a carpenter with a previous arrest record, was charged, tried, and executed for the death of the Lindbergh baby.   The case against Hauptmann seemed strong, but it was basically circumstantial, leading some to doubt his guilt and to question the investigation.

Here is the FBI side of the story, as taken from their website.
