MUSIC FROM THE PAST: WHO THREW THE OVERALLS IN MRS. MURPHY'S CHOWDER?

Last night, while de-boning a chicken, Kitty began to sing this song.  Why?  I don't know, but it's one of the reasons why I love her.

Edward M. Favor sings this one in a 1901 Edison recording.

    Who? Probably the same one "Who Threw the Benzadrine in Mrs. Murphy's Ovaltine" (recorded in 1944 by Harry the Hipster Gibson)

      Or, (perhaps) the one "Who Put the Severed Head in Mrs. Murphy's Trundle Bed." (from Fredric Brown's 1963 Ed and Am Hunter novel MRS. MURPHY'S UNDERPANTS)

    We had a different version. Started in a whisper, ended in a scream:
    "Who put the underwear in Mrs. Murphy's chowder? And if you cannot hear us, we'll sing a little louder..."
