FORGOTTEN BOOK: IN WADERS FROM MARS

In Waders from Mars by Keith Lansdale, Joe R. Lansdale, & Karen Lansdale  (2012)

A children's book, heavy on illustration (by Doug Potter), short on words, published in a limited edition by Subterranean Press (600 copies signed by all three authors, mine is #83).

This is a story that Keith Lansdale, now well into his forties, made up when he was five years old.  It's written by his father (hisownself) and given an ending by his mother.  More than an interesting story, it is a tribute to childhood imagination and wonder -- something that we often tend to overlook nowadays.

In brief, ducks from Mars have invaded Earth and plan to take it over, starting with Keith's back yard.  Actually, just two ducks, but they have several boxes of powdered duck; just add water to create an army of ducks.  The ducks have silly silver spacesuits and are wearing waders.  Dad doesn't think the ducks can do much harm, buy the ducks convince Keith they mean business.  It's up to Keith to come up with a way to stop the invasion and save Earth.  Of course Keith does and Dad takes him out for ice cream.

Charming.

  1. That Lansdale family certainly has writing talent! I've purchased a number of Joe R. Lansdale books published by Subterranean Press, all enjoyable.
